Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation (TWS) Performance Enhancement

For Power Traders, Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation (TWS) does not assign enough memory for the Java Platform. To get around this you will need to update the tws.vmoptions by following the steps below.

Step 1
First you will need to search you Start Menu for “Notepad” right click and Run as administrator.

Step 2
Click File then Open

Step 3
Type or copy the following into the File Name field “c:\jts\” hit enter.

Step 4
Trigger the drop down Text Documents (*.txt) and select All Files (*.*)

Step 5
Select tws.vmoptions then click open

Step 6
You should see something like what you see below delete the line shown and then add -Xmx1500m to the end of the file below ###keep on update

# This file contains VM parameters for Trader Workstation.
# Each parameter should be defined in a separate line and the
# last line must be followed by a line feed. No leading or
# trailing whitespaces are allowed in the same line, where a
# parameter is defined.
# Lines starting with a ‘#’ character are treated as comments
# and ignored. Additionally, if a line contains a
# ‘### keep on update’ string, all parameters defined below will
# be preserved on update.

# maximum Java heap size
-Xmx768m Delete this line

# preferred channel for updates (“stable”, “latest”, “beta”)


### keep on update
-Xmx1500m Add this line

Then just save the file and you are off to higher performance trading with Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation (TWS) on your Falcon.
