Recommended Anti-virus Software

One of the first questions we’re asked after a new computer has been delivered is, “What do you recommend for anti-virus?”   Here we answer that question.

What Falcon recommends:  Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

Why?  Because it is what we have been using, with success, since 2013.

If you ordered Kaspersky with your trading computer, it’s already installed.  Check your Order received email to see if you added it to your computer, or look for the Kaspersky logo on your desktop….

If you did not order it with your computer, you can purchase it online at Kaspersky’s website.  Note: do not purchase Internet Security or Total Security.  Those products add features that block your trading programs.  Kaspersky Anti-Virus is the one you want.

What about all the news about Kaspersky on the web and TV?  We’ve not seen any evidence of those claims.  Kaspersky is a very effective anti-virus tool and we continue to recommend it even if the United States government does not.  The CEO of Kaspersky has offered to share the programming source code with the government, to show that there is no malicious intent, but they have not budged on the issue.

If you do not want Kaspersky, or do not wish to spend a lot of money (or none) on anti-virus, we recommend Malwarebytes.  It is also very effective and removes Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs) from your computer.  This is good if you have downloaded free software from the Internet because it probably contains spyware.  If you don’t pay for Malwarebytes the free version will need to be run manually every couple of weeks.

We will be adding an article soon about how to remove viruses that have infected your computer, so check back often for that and other good information.
